So Sunday morning has arrived and as I sit in the mid morning sun, with my cup of coffee, I start to wonder what will be for lunch…. Being a Sunday there will of course be a dessert. My mind wanders to the old time favourite Malva pudding http://www.livingdelish.com/malva-pudding/
But my taste buds are craving chocolate. And then I realise, what better way to round off the perfect Sunday meal than with a self sauce chocolate pudding. (Who needs custard, when you have this baby.) 😋
This is a special pudding. It takes very basic ingredients, that you ten to one already have in your pantry, whipps up in 10 minutes and the cherry on top? It creates its own thick chocolate sauce. This self sauce chocolate pudding really goes very well topped of with some vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
250 ml Cake flour
10 ml Baking powder
2 ml salt
200 ml caster sugar
75ml Cacao powder, siffed
5 ml Cinnamon, grounded
2 ml Ginger, grounded
25 g Butter, melted
125 ml Milk
5 ml Vanilla essence
125ml Chopped pecan nuts (Optional)
250 ml Brown sugar
300 ml Warm water
Method
Preheat your oven to 180Ëšc
Grease an oven proof dish of 25 cm x 15 cm x 5 cm with butter or margarine.
Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, salt and 75 ml of the cacao powder together, now add the caster sugar.
Add the melted butter, milk, vanilla essence and nuts to the flour mixture. Mix well.
Now pour this mixture in the prepared dish and set aside.
In a separate bowl mix the brown sugar and the remainder of the cacao powder. Sprinkle this over the batter that was set aside. Add the water over the sugar mixture. Carefully set the batter dish into an oven dish filled with boiling water. Make sure the water reached the batter dish at least halfway. Now place in the pre heated oven and bake for +/- 30 minutes or until cooked.
