With Christmas approaching fast my kitchen is madhouse. My oven is on from early in the morning, baking all kinds of treats. Oh, so much fun!!
This year we decided to bake these adorable reindeer cookies for santa.
It’s a great cookie. It holds it shape throughout baking and it tastes simply just amazing!!
I bought this reindeer cookie cutter a while ago, and couldn’t wait to use it. After digging through some old recipes I found this old time favourite recipe. I Forgot how nice this cookie recipe is to bake. You can use pretty much any cuter or even an embossed rolling pin with this dough.
This recipe makes around 24 cookies. But of course it all depends on the size of your cookie cutter.
Ingredients
250 ml
Butter, soften
250 ml White sugar
1 large egg
5 ml Vanilla extract
5 ml Cinnamon, grounded
2 ¾ Cups of cake flour
10 ml Baking powder
Instructions
Pre heat your oven to 180 ˚C. Grease two cookie sheets and set aside.
Start by creaming the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. (I use a stand mixer, It just makes life so much easier.)
Now add in the egg followed by the Vanilla extract and mix well.
In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking powder together. Now slowly add this to your sugar mixture. Make sure to mix well after each addition of flour.
If your dough seems a bit stiff or does not come together in a ball. Add a tablespoon of water. Mix well after the tablespoon repeat until your dough forms a ball. (This is only an issue when your egg was not big enough.)
Once knead, wrap your dough tightly with some cling wrap and place in your fridge for about 1 hour. You can skip this step if you are rushed for time. Just remember a cool dough bakes slightly longer but more evenly in your oven, without spreading to much.
After cooling is done, lightly flour your table with some flour. Roll out your dough to about 1 cm thickness. Use your favourite cookie cutter, or in my case I used my reindeer cookie cutter and carefully press shapes on your dough. Transfer them to your baking tray.
Now you are ready to bake your little reindeer cookies. Bake them until they are golden brown or for 5 – 8 minutes. Depending on the heat of your oven. Once baked transfer them to a cooling rack and allow them to cool down completely. You can store them in an airtight container.
Decorating your reindeer cookies
I wanted to add just something special to the cookies. So, I decided to colour each reindeer with some royal icing.

I simply used some red coloured royal icing and added a red nose for each reindeer. 😍 Aaaa…. perfect!!
