I think Lemon or Lime is a very personal choice… There are so many uses for them from health or beauty, delicious recipes to cleaning. Their uses are truly never ending.
Although both are high in Vitamin C and Flavonoids, the antioxidant that strengthens Collagen (Well hello – no more wrinkles)😊 Lemon provides a bigger dosage of Potassium while Lime provides more Calcium.
While some might argue that Limes are slightly sweeter than a lemon, these two Citrus fruits are very similar.
Here are some fun uses for these lovely citrus fruits…
Lemon uses in the kitchen:
Lemon has a fantastic fresh fragrance which makes it an excellent freshener. Cut a lemon in half. Place a half in your fridge. This will neutralize fridge smells leaving your fridge smelling fresh.
It also works very good for removing fish or onion odor smells from your hands. Simply rub some lemon juice over your hands then wash them as normal.
When your cutting boards, bowels or Tupperware starts to looked stained, simply use half a cut lemon and rub some lemon over. Let this sit for about 30 minutes. Then wash and dry.
Lime uses in the Kitchen:
Probably the most popular use for limes is Key lime pie! http://www.livingdelish.com/key-lime-pie/ Lime juice and lime zest will provide a light and fresh flavor that will enhance the flavor of many baked dishes and desserts.
Limes works very similar to lemons. They are great deodorizers. Make a simple air freshener using diluted lime juice, it will leave a pleasant floral-citrus aroma in the air.
Help whites fabrics regain their former brightness by filling your kitchen sink with lukewarm water, add 1/4 cup of lime juice and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Stir to dissolve. Now soak your whites for 30 minutes in the solution, then rinse and wash as normal.
Health and beauty uses for Lemon:
Lemon has wonderful lightener properties. Why not use them to your advantage. Use half a lemon and rub the flesh over your darkened elbow and knees skin. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so. Then rinse thoroughly. This will lighten the skin every time you use it. Just be careful if your skin is damaged. Applying lemon juice to open wounds will sting and burn.
If your hair is on the lighter side you can naturally add a sun kiss look by applying lemon juice to your hair. Let your hair dry while sitting in the sun. After it dried in the sun, wash and dry your hair as normal. This is an easy way to lighten your hair.
To exfoliate your skin and lips has some good benefits. It loosens dead skin cells and really improves your complexion. Why not make your own lip exfoliator. Just remember not to use on cuts or chapped lips.
Health and beauty uses for Lime:
Lime juice works very well for acne and pimples. The juice of the lime inhibit the growth of bacteria that causes these skin breakouts. Lime juice can also help to tighten the skin. This will reduce the production of oil that causes bad skin.
To help keep your skin clean, make a face scrub. Store this in an airtight container and use every second or third night to exfoliate. (P.s for a great gift, dress your container up with a pretty bow. 😉 ) This scrub works well with lemon or lime.
Of coarse eating both lemon or lime has great health benefits. They are packed with Vitamin C which has been used for ages to help shorten the duration of a flu or cold not to mention how good Vitamin C is for your skin.
