Copycat Pizza Hut Pizza

Yes, It’s weekend again! That only means one thing… Pizza. It has definitely become a weekend thing at home. Sometimes we buy but most of the times we make our own. My hubby actually prefers this Copycat Pizza Hut Pizza to store bought pizza and I have to admit I do too.

This Pizza recipe makes a delicious thick base pizza. The dough is enough to make 3 individual 8-inch pan pizzas. But we like to make one large pan Pizza. We use a 18 x 14-inch rectangular pan to make our family favorite. I usually double the recipe up to make two large pizzas. I then cut the pizza in squares and usually get around 12 large squares out of one pan.

The crust of this Copycat pizza hut pizza is amazing. The dough puffs up nicely to create a tasty thick base. The trick is to brush the edges of the pizza with some melted butter before you bake it. This Makes the edges golden brown and crunchy. My kids has dubbed this pizza, Copycat Pizza hut pizza, It’s not exactly the same. But pretty damn close and very tasty!

I Hope you will enjoy this recipe as much as that we do. Let me know what you think.

Copycat Pizza Hut Pizza Recipe

Make 1 large, 18 x 14-inch rectangular pizza or 3 X 8-inch round pizzas

Ingredients

350 ml Lukewarm water
½ Teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 packet Active dry Yeast (7 g)
2 Tablespoons olive oil (Plus more for greasing pans)
4 Cups flour (Plus more for rolling out pizza)
2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted

Directions

In a large measuring jug, add the Lukewarm water, salt, sugar and Active dry yeast. Stir until well combined. Now set aside to allow the yeast to proof. This should take between 3-5 minutes. You will know its done when the mixture formed a thick foam layer on top.

Now add the olive oil to the yeast mixture and stir until just combined.

In the bowl of your stand mixer (Or large bowl if you do not have a stand mixer) add the flour. Now pour in the yeast mixture.
Using a spoon stir the mixture until just combined.

If you are using a stand mixture, attached the dough hook and mix the dough for 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
If you do not have a stand mixer you can knead the dough by hand on a very lightly floured surface. Keep kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Once the dough is knead, place it on a greased pan and cover with a piece of greased plastic wrap. Place a clean tea towel on top of the plastic wrap and place the dough in a warm area. Allow the dough to rise until doubled in size or for an hour and a half.

When the dough has done rising, place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out into the shape of your pan. If you are making the individual 8 inch pizzas – Divide the dough first into 3, then roll each ball out into a circle to fill the pan.
Grease the pan/s and add the dough. Using your fingers spread the dough out to fill the pan/s.

Time for toppings

Use your favorite pizza sauce. Spread over the pizza base leaving a small piece of the edges open and free from pizza sauce. This piece you will brush with melted butter.
Sprinkle dried origanum followed by some crushed garlic over the base.
Now add your favorite toppings followed by some grated cheese.

We made 2 different kinds of pizzas in this picture.
One was topped with creamed spinach, Onion, cheddar cheese, Feta cheese and mozzarella.
The other was topped with mushrooms, olives, artichokes, onion and mozzarella cheese.
